Dear Colleagues and Friends,

We are excited to announce that From a Silk Cocoon, our Emmy Award-winning
documentary, has been made
available to PBS affiliate stations across America (by the Center for Asian
American Media, formerly NAATA) for a May 2007 broadcast! This gives us the
opportunity to reach millions of people across America during Asian Pacific
American Heritage Month.

But we are at a CRITICAL STAGE, and need your help to make sure that this
important documentary is broadcast in your community and viewed by the
largest audience possible, as each station is NOW deciding whether and when
to air the program locally.

From a Silk Cocoon is a powerful documentary which, unlike any other program
on the subject, delves into the experience of a Japanese American couple who
respond to the loss of their civil liberties and incarceration during WWII
by renouncing their citizenship in hopes of finding dignity and safety for
their children. It is a story based on personal documents that reveal the
painful and traumatic experience of a family in crisis. (See clip on YouTube
here .)

Through the widest possible broadcast, we hope to educate the public about a
tragic historical injustice and the relevant lessons that can be learned as
we face current issues in post 9/11 America. We also hope to encourage
dialogue regarding issues of protest and patriotism, anti-terrorism and
racism, fear and scape-goating, that often become clouded during times of
great social anxiety.

To make sure the program does reach the widest possible audience and has the
greatest possible impact, please consider doing the following:

First, call or email your local PBS station and request that they air From a
Silk Cocoon. You can find email addresses/phone numbers here:
www.pbs.org/stationfinder. If they
already have it scheduled, thank them and ask for specific dates and times
of the broadcast. If they have not scheduled it, please encourage them to
broadcast it for the benefit of the entire community. If you learn of a
specific broadcast, please let us know the information. You can view an
updated list of known broadcasts on our Web site at: www.fromasilkcocoon.com
.

Second, please do everything possible to take advantage of this opportunity
by forwarding this email and/or publicizing the program to your group and
community, and by using the program to support your ongoing efforts. The
lessons of From a Silk Cocoon are more relevant than ever today as our
country strives to find the balance between our principles of democracy and
need for national security. (A supplemental Viewer’s Guide with
thought-provoking questions and sources of information can be printed from
our Web site here, www.fromasilkcocoon.com/viewersguide.html.)

And last, encourage colleagues, family, and friends to watch! Thank you for
helping us share this story with audiences across America.
